Imagine a week of learning the many lessons horses have to teach you about a fully engaged life. Now imagine experiencing these lessons in the beautiful surrounding of one of the countries’ premier guest ranches.
This week is about “Transformational Horsemanship”. It is about absorbing what Horsemanship could mean to your life. The lessons of clear communication, effective leadership, true commitment, self-sacrifice, and partnership are skills that have been lost since the days when a horseman had to rely on his/her equine partner to get a job done.
No amount of intimidation, posturing, or power plays could substitute for true relationship. Horses force us to be in the here and now, forgetting our past and disregarding our future. It is for this reason that horses provide powerful metaphors as we encounter life’s challenges and changes.
Your week will begin with the first in a series of “Lessons from the Round Pen”. During these demonstrations Don will be working with a young horse that has never been ridden. Through the course of the week the horse will teach participants lessons about clear communication, effective leadership, true commitment, full engagement and partnership.
The following morning’s ride will reinforce these lessons as participants learn applicable examples of lesson to apply to their assigned guest ranch horses. These lessons are not designed to simply improve horsemanship skills; they are designed to have applicable meaning to everyday life! There will be ample time for group discussions and/or journaling on these life lessons learned through horsemanship.
In the afternoons participants are welcome to enjoy the many activities of ranch life or simply relax. You are on vacation after all.
After dinner we will again move to the round pen for another demonstration of the power of the horse to transform lives. Through the week you will watch as the wild, rambunctious colt becomes a trustworthy partner.
You will not want to miss the opportunity to experience at least one of these “Transformational Horsemanship” weeks. The knowledge gained will last far beyond the 7 days spent at the ranch!

“My clinic experience was very eye opening and interesting. I learned the importance of the moving different parts of the horse and how each part comes into play in the end result. The best part was moving the cow down the fence and properly aligning the horse according to the cows movements. The clinic was very beneficial to me and my horse and we would love to attend another”
Carolyn Johnson“Buddy was not handled except for halter breaking and a few hoof trimmings. He was a little flighty and you had to be careful not to move too fast around him. He had a nice mind though.
After about 40 days with Don he came back completely calm. He had taken him to the mountains, roped some steers and had seen some country. He sidepasses, stops well and turns great. He is extremely quiet and calm. Don has such a quiet, gentle way with horses. I am extremely satisfied with the results.
In closing I would say Don is quiet and calm with the horses, but has a way of getting the horse's respect and everything the horse has to offfer.”

In December 2005 I bought two mustangs off the range. When the colts arrived home they were like two whitetailed deer in the round pen. Extremely skittish!
Don took the task of halter breaking for me. After one session he was petting them and by the 3rd and 4th session we were picking up their feet and leading them around. This year (2007) Don has been riding Doc on short trail rides. With Don's quiet patience he has been very successful with Doc. Don is very inquisitive and level-headed when working with my colts.
