First Visit

What will take place during the Chiropractic visit?

First, a history of your horse is taken. Dr. Don will need to know the complaint, duration of the complaint, what your horse is used for, previous veterinary visits, and other useful information. For longstanding problems it helps to have the treatment notes of previous care givers. Posture and gait analysis will be performed, as well as static and motion palpation examinations on the horse.

Dr. Don Funke adjusting a horse The doctor will be looking for abnormal motion of the spine, swelling, heat, muscle tightness or spasms, subluxation, fixated joints, range of motion limitations, hips or pelvis uneven, head tilt, ears uneven, performance or gait limitations, or any other chiropractic related problems.

After the equine chiropractic examination, a chiropractic adjustment will be performed. The adjustment is a specific high velocity, low force thrust with a specific line of correction aimed to correct joint misalignments and fixations. This will restore proper body, muscle, and nerve function. It can be done in any region of the spine or extremities.

Dr. Don Funke adjusting a horse After the adjustment, a gait analysis and motion palpation evaluation will be performed again. Improvement in the affected areas will be noted. Often there are visible, physical signs of relaxation demonstrated by the horse. This is the rewarding part, a relaxed, comfortable horse ready to heal and perform.

What will it cost?

  • $0.50 per mile, travel fee
